High On Fire

Didn't see these dudes here. For those who don't know, they're the band spawned by former Sleep guitarist Matt Pike and they've released 4 albums so far.

Did anyone here, though that they have a release planned for this year? Ive heard some rumors of a new High On Fire album in the works, but just recently, I checked one website (Metal Storm) with upcoming metal releases this year, that showed their new album slated for an August release. Link. If this is true, then 2009 will truly be an awesome way to end the decade!

Yeah I'm gonna surprised we've never posted about this band. I love them and anything involving Sleep members. Pretty much everything this band has done has been listenable for me.

i love Death Is This Communion, my faaaave album.

Saw them open for Opeth earlier this year. Possibly the loudest show I've ever been to. Fury Whip is a great song.

DITC is a nice album.

Looks like their new album is going to be released early 2010 instead according to their website.

Formed by guitarist Matt Pike after the breakup of (his previous band) the legendary stoner metal band Sleep. they've released four albums with another coming early next year.

their 07 album Death is this Communion is a great listen from beginning to end, and my favorite release from the band. think of a slowed down, more badass (if possible) Motorhead and you know what to expect.

"We went a little over-aggressive with the drumming, and me and [bassist] Jeff [Matz] collaborated a lot more throughout the songwriting process," HIGH ON FIRE frontman Matt Pike tells AOL's Noisecreep. "We went for a more aggressive approach. It's what we do well. We went for a heavier, ballsier, faster-paced sound that still has a lot of cleverness to it ... there are lots of stops and stalls, crazy licks. It's really heavy, a little more aggressive than our last album, a little less psychedelic. For the most part, the songs are amazing."

I'll rate them in between...

I'm definitely surprised there hasn't been a leak yet. I've seen a couple reviews of it, so the album must have been distributed some time.

As for the song, I haven't listened to it since they premiered it, but I can't say I was a huge fan. The main part that gives me trouble is that Mastodon-y bit towards the end. The rest has grown on me more, but that section always breaks the flow.

I can't really see the greatness in them either..
