PostSubject: Vegetarianism   Mon May 11, 2009 3:17 pm

Well, this is normally another pretty controversial topic when it comes to humans. Many are all for killing animals for whatever reason, others are not for whatever reason.

So is anyone here vegan or vegetarian?

I've recently been thinking about going vegetarian. Lately I've become really burnt out on meat and enjoy eating fruits and veggies more. They're extremely tasty too me as to where the meat has just really lost taste for me.

As far as the killing of animals goes though, I'm entirely ok with a father son going out for a weekend hunting trip and kill a deer for them to eat and enjoy I'm completely ok with that, I don't feel like the animal suffered. I say this because one shot normally and the animal is dead. Now, as far as the big companys raising animals to be mass slaughtered thats pretty fucked up. A small farmer rasing a decent amount of cows and milking them can treat the much better than a huge corporate food companie rasing a mass amount of cows for the same thing.

So, thoughts on the subject?

I agree with you about the killing part. The people who don't give a shit if their food is veg or non-veg should seriously turn vegetarian. As for me, I'm fond of food and addicted to meat.
Don't think I'll embrace the vegan cult in the future either..

I once tried to live only on fruits and veggies but it soon turned out to be impossible because yeah I am addicted to meat too, if I haven`t eaten meat or fish for more than 2 days, I start feeling very bad, no energy no nothing, just a huge headache...

besides I really don`t think vegetarianism is healthy for teenagers or for anyone who works hard and needs that energy which you simply can not get no matter how much fruit you eat.
and what about people who live in the north?? they would die without eating meat.

of course killing animals is totally a different topic, I agree with Dope on what he said.

I probably couldn't go fully vegan but I could easily handle the vegetarian life style. Mostly because like I said I'm already basied towards fruit and veggies. I've always been completely loving of veggies and fruits. Personally, I always find it funny how hypocritical people can be when it comes to animals and such. People are always upset when a dog or cat is killed by someone or something, but it's completely ok for a slaughter house to slaughter thousands of cows for human consumption. I am seriously thinking about speaking with a vegetarian that I speak with a fair amount and asking them how to start out living the vegan/vegetarian life style, because I know it's very important too start out with a correct diet so that you don't become sick. I am currently reading on the subject right now to better educate myself. The only meat I take in on a near daily bases or close too it is chicken, I love chicken so much.

I'm Omnivorous and I say this with neither pride or shame. With that said I have no problems with anyone with a vegetarian diet so long as they don't impose that on other people otherwise they're no better than those macho assholes who think "Real men eat red meat" and believe me there's alot of them out there too.

The only kind of meat i really like is chicken. I will never go hunting. EVER. I hate it when people kill animals just for fun like most hunters do. It makes me very angry and it makes me want to hunt humans. Kind of "the hunter becomes the hunted" thing. I'd like to do that, throw a bunch of hunters in a forest with nothing to defends themselves and kill them one by one.

There are plenty ways of getting the energy. I am pretty sure there is even a study about teens and young adults are less likely to be overweight if they're vegetarian. Then again, that same study says that a large amount of those same teens still consume chicken and fish, so, you know it's hard to say. It also says that those same kids do it to become skinny or to stay skinny, so it's possible they're not eating enough, I suppose.

I only support hunting for consumption, I'll side with a rural family or Indigenous people trying to provide for themselves over some elitist douche trying to feel big with a gun any day.

Hunting is in no way shape or form worse than the way they kill those chickens you eat. Unless you're getting them fresh from somewhere local. They're raised in slaughter houses and treated horribly. Most hunters do eat those animals they kill. Atleast when they're killed from hunting they lived a free life and were in the wild and didn't suffer from being rasied in a shitty slaughter house and killed. There is no way to justify this;

Ps : To dopesmoker, yeah i know it's horrible the way they raise and kill those chickens, i never said the opposite.

Yes, I agree with that. Thats exactly what I was trying to say. Pretty much anyone that puts the effort to go hunting will eat the game they killed. Either they'll eat it or give it too someone or what have you. I eat deer regularly during deer season. I've never personally killed one but my dad has and we've eaten them before.

Trust me, there are way more people who hunt for pleasure then you seem to think. They could just buy the meat but instead they want to kill the animal themselves with their big guns so they can feel all powerful. "Look i just killed a defenceless baby dear with my big gun, i'm so awesome!"

People that hunt deer generally do eat what they kill. And they aren't allowed to shoot babies. As far as morons that hunt to hang the head in their office, well that's a whole different story.

Breeding for killing is pretty shitty in my opinion. I mean, you raise them just to kill them. Whats right about that?

Unfortunately this planet would be unable to sustain life for very long if everyone became vegetarians.

I`m starting to think that killing animals still remains killing them no matter how you do it... basically, it`s about what rights do we really have here, I mean, are we animals too and can`t avoid killing other animals and eating them, or are we more highly developed... I know, I`m getting to phylosophical about this, there`s just this conflict between what is ethical and what is our physiological needs to survive...

go on, disagree me.

Which when you think about it, brings us to another important factor. Truth is even if you are a vegetarian you're still taking life for your own consumption. That's why I Always find it amusing whenever I hear someone getting all pious about people killing animals for meat because all the vegetables we eat were once parts of plants that grow and breathe as we speak.

Cruelty to animals is illegal so why aren't slaughter houses shut down?
