80's Agent Steel and Helstar for example i would say, Jag Panzer's self titled and if would look in the whole heavy metal category i can come up with a bunch of bands. But as i said this is just my opinion, in this kind of music i like it old school. I never said they were bad Wink

Fair enough man I like those bands you mentioned.

Dark Saga by Iced Earth is probably my favourite of theirs.

Stu Block from the progressive/melodic death metal band Into Eternity is the new singer in Iced Earth.
I better check his singing in a couple of songs by Into Eternity to figure out how he might fit in...

Totally mediocre band. Demons & Wizards sucks too. America has much better power metal to offer. Mad agreement to whoever called Helstar underrated--Iced Earth should not have any recognition by comparison.

Are they mediocre? Damn I didn't know...and I have listened to several of their albums, even several times. You better take a look at my last.fm charts. If you find more mediocre bands there, let me know.

In exchange I have made a list of mediocre bands you should avoid:

Ildjarn
Disfear
Havohej
Von
Profanatica
Summoning
Morbid Scream
Nuclear Death
Autopsy
Necrophagia

But a guy so clever and enlighten than you already knows that these bands suck, don't you?

It figures that you would pick influential bands who affected the course of heavy metal in defense of a band that has made absolutely no useful contribution artistically.

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

I've been around so long on this planet that I never get hurt by anyones opinion. Yes, you think Iced Earth is a mediocre band...I respect that, if you can come up with a valid point. If I don't like...or care for a band...I make a valid point of not wasting my time posting in those bands threads.

I just randomly picked some bands from your last.fm charts that I don't like. Maybe some of them were influential and made an impact. I don't listen to a band just because they were influential, true or some other stupid reason some may have to justify why they listen to certain bands. I listen to a band because I like them...no other reason.

Back to topic. Been listening to some songs by Into Eternity with Stu Block. He's really got a wide vocal range. From growling death/black metal vocals, clean vocals to high pitch Halford like vocals. Hopefully he can bring in some fresh ideas to the band that can result in a good album...been to many OK albums the last decade or so...we want a good one now...

My decision to vocalize my dislike for something is just as valid.

To be clear, this is not why I listen to those bands. I do genuinely like them, and part of that reason is that they use aesthetics to communicate more complex ideas, or because their aesthetic creates an impact that lasts, the way art should. Except for Disfear. All of those guys did much better work in their respective death metal groups. It just took me too long to figure that out.

Is pretty much saying mediocre. And that was precisely my point. Iced Earth's entire catalogue (as far as I've braved it) lacks any kind of innovation. It is straight power metal done safely, and that's what bores me about it. It's all been done before, and better.

On the less aggressive side, since you do like the band as you've said, try converting me. Recommend some highlights. I do sincerely try to keep an open mind, even when I've been cocksure of something for a long time.

That is a thoughtful and sensible answer. I wouldn't have bothered if you said it the first time.

I have never tried to convince anybody to like the same bands as I do. It's up to each and everyone to made up their own mind. I can recommend Night Of the Stormrider and Burnt Offerings.
I find them quite innovative and unique as metal was pretty much dead at the time they was released, and they gained some attention and credibility even tho they were a unknown band.

I've always had mixed feelings with Iced Earth. They have a couple of epic albums, Stormrider and Burnt Offerings being the 2 best but they also have some shittier albums as well such as pretty much everything from 1996 on other than Horror Show which I thought was good.

Why would he keep his job as a cop??? I'm sure he would make a good living in Iced Earth... maybe I'm wrong
