This band was initally formed as a project by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 when he split from Deep Purple for the first time. The first lineup of this band consisted of Most of the band Elf, which had Ronnie James Dio as lead vocalist. They recorded one album with this lineup, and it spawned such hits as Man on the Silver Mountain. After its release in 1975, the lineup again changed, except Dio and Blackmore. The lineup was Dio on vocals, Blackmore on guitar, Jimmy Bain on bass (who would later play bass for Dio), Cozy Powell on drums(who drummed for Glenn Beck), and Tony Carey on Keyboards. They recorded Rainbow Rising, which is hailed as an masterpiece of an album. The final album of the Dio years would be Long Live Rock n' Roll, which did not have the same success that Rising did. The lineup changed again in 77'. Finaly in 79, Dio left the band for Black Sabbath, and Graham Bonnet took over vocal duties for the band. Since then, the band has broken up, changed members, and are presently still together under a different moniker.

Rising, Long Live Rock & Roll and Down To Earth is my faves. Bent Out Of Shape is also decent, even tho I can't stand Joe Lynn Turner singing....

Long time, no hear. Their albums have been collecting dust in the shelves for a few month now. Time to give one or two of them a spin....
