Warning are a Doom Metal band from the UK. They have two full length albums out. The Strength To Dream and Watching From A Distance. Both are very good.

Watching From a Distance is considered a masterpiece of Doom by some, I probably don't rate it that highly but it is a very good album regardless

Haven't heard The Strength to Dream yet.

They remind me of Mournful Congregation... but truely great doom metal. Very depressing.

Mournful Congregation are a Funeral Doom band Warning are a Trad. Doom band. They sound absolutely nothing alike.

How do they remind you of Mournful Congregation?

Warning do have some funeral doom tendencies but I think RHG is speaking aesthetically which I can see, Warning do have the long dirge like moments and they play (generally) much slower than say, Pentagram or Saint Vitus.

I just call em' Doom. Very Happy

I, too, am somewhat confused by the comparison.

However; on a technical point I think it's still fair to consider Mournful Congregation at least partially legitimate doom band, a lot of the song structuring and riffs owe more to standard doom playing, rather than death metal, on which a lot of funeral doom is based. Even more so, I can't attribute them to a specific branch of doom metal, because there are quite a few elements to their music.

Back to the topic though; it's a shame the band is now over, as WFaD is a classic album, probably one of the albums that best represents the genre for me, both in aesthetics, music, lyrical content, etc. Their first album would have been up there too, had it not been for the rather subpar vocals on the recording. It seems in the seven or so years, Pat has really pushed his vocals to a completely new level.

One thing that may be worth to note, their earlier demos are much more suited to the "old" vocal, and are a lot closer to the Sabbath/Witchfinder General/Reverend Bizarre style of doom - nothing like the band they became. And yet - still really killer material.

I really like Footprints but don't really listen to much else they've done, even though I have both albums and demos.

I guess I came across Watching From a Distance at the right time; the album is highly laden with emotion, but if you're in a certain frame of mind, you get a lot out of it...
