Formed in late 1996 the only northern-german Doom-Metal-Band Cold Embrace had their first appearance with their debut “Ode To Sorrow” in 1998/99,an ultra-slow and heavy piece of Doom/Death-Metal that was highly acclaimed by the press. At that time, Cold Embrace toured as a four-piece with bands like Crowbar etc. “Ode….” Is the darkest Cold Embrace-album ao far.
In 2001 the second album “Age Of Doom” was released which went strictly into another direction using clean atmospheric vocals instead of grunts and gothic-voices. The lyrics on this album mainly were influenced by nordic mythology and Cold Embrace became a kind of “Bathory of the doom-scene”. Only 3 original members left, Cold Embrace disappeared from the stages due to several line-up-changes and engagement in other bands and projects. “Age Of Doom” was indeed well accepted in the scene and a huge step forward compared to the debut.
Two years later the “Buran”-EP was released and was meant to be strictly limited, showing Cold Embrace from their more “rocking” side. Even if the tracks were written between the two albums (the songs were considered to be too “forward” compared to the first album so the band could not put them on the “Age…”-album) most people liked it best. Melodic, hymnic chants, guitar-melodies and slow riffs in the vein of classic doom were the trademarks, not quite as dark as the older stuff, this EP creates a melancholic but still hopeful scenery.
Currently Cold Embrace continue as a 2-piece with session-drummers (since the original drummer Andreas Pfeiffer left in 2002 this position has been vacant),working on new material for the third album, that will combine all of the different styles of doom, that were celebrated on the other releases.
