| They made their music wery long time but they wasted by a dimebag s maniac fan. İ think i can compare their destiny like led zeppelin (but dimebag s death such as john lennon.) one of the biggest thrash metal groups. my favorites are vulgar display of power, cfh, far beyond driven i also have their live album official proof (but the casette is not working anymore because of tenthousands of listening per a day) and also like their black sabbath cover planet caravan.

| Not a huge fan, their album Power Metal is ok, Cowboys is ok as is Vulgar. Dimebag is over rated imo and only gets as much attention as he does cause he's dead. | |

| I dont agree with that, I know so many people that rated Dimebag before he was killed, his Death brought even further out to the masses. He was a talented guitarist and the fact that he was so well respected in the music industry just adds to that. |

| Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display Of Power caused that I found in the thrash what is the best. Very big band, kings from the late '80 to the last record. |

| CBH is their only good album. I find this band to be extremely overrated, and the majority of their publicity comes from the fact that Dimebag was shot. |

| Cowboys From Hell is such a great album, but I can't stand anything before and after it. |

| Cowboys From Hell is their only album worth while....but that one is one hell of a album. On my all time album top 20 list, for sure.
The rest of their stuff did nothing to me.... | |

| They have a few scattered songs that I like, but overall never could really get into 'em. I like some of Phil's other projects though, like Down, Superjoint Ritual, and Southern Isolation. |

| Down is an amazing band. I think Pepper Kennan has a big influence on that band a well though. |

| Don't like 'em, don't really wanna get into the reasons. Well one reason I'll let you know. Exhorder > Pantera. In my opinion, Exhorder would have been the ones in the limelight, but no Pantera had to xerox their style. |

| Yeah I agree with your point on Exhorder, but answer me this, how come Exhorder is literally unknown (well outside of "real" metal circles) yet Pantera is known by everyone, even non-metalheads? |

| They just managed to get lucky. During the 90's, rock music was gearing towards more aggressive sounding stuff. Pantera were a glam rock/heavy metal band. They changed their attitude and style to fit with the time period. They figured oh maybe we'll emulate Exhorder, some band that is really excellent yet we've been successful and now lets see if we could become even more successful with their image and sound. And well, Exhorder's formula worked for 'em.
It's rather disturbing how Phil Anselmo also tried to look almost exactly like Exhorder's lead vocalist. Sad, just sad. Pantera never even really thanked Exhorder or none of that. I did read Anselmo wore an Exhorder shirt. Mmmk, no problem with him being a fan and all. I feel Pantera should have stayed the way they were or just disband (IMO). |

| Good points. I concur, it is disappointing when bands need to copy others to get by, originality means a lot. I still think Dimebag is the superior musician out of both bands. |

| Yeah and the name Pantera (which means panther in Spanish) sounds a lot more catchier than Exhorder. That got them more famous than Exhorder. Like ya know the general public doesn't know what the word "Exhorder" means. I had some weirdo friend and I mentioned him Exhorder. He said that he would want one of those. |

| In the early '90s metal was pushed very far underground after the brief mainstream success that thrash metal and a few death mteal bands enjoyed. Nirvana and the whole grunge rock movement took over, and Pantera capitalized on the fact that no thrash bands were being signed to monopolize the metal scene during the early '90s. |

Same here. It is a unique name. Pantera really isn't. |

Dimebag wasn't that great, pretty average. Not a big fan of Pantera myself, though. |

| Hey I think Pantera is one of the best band ever...I love this band and I don't understand people who says that pantera wasn't amazing band...
And Dimebag isn't overated because he's dead. He was really excellent guitarist...amazing and hard riffs (CoF, 5 MA), amazing work with tremolo, I've never seen someone better and better solos...amazing slow songs (Floods, This love, Cemetery gates).
I love Pantera:-D, R.I.P Dime... |

| Amazing band. Really annoying though that I never got the chance to see them. And yeah Dimebag was amazing, him being shot has nothing to do with it, I've always loved his playing and he was one of the main pulls for people who enjoyed the band. |
