The power/speed metal band
Firewind began as more of a showcase than a band. The young Greek guitarist Kostas Karamitroudis (now better known as
Gus G.) recorded a full-length demo in 1998 with the help of friends to display his guitar skills to potential labels. Despite not being seen as a real band, he liked the name
Firewind and it was used to market the demo, called
Nocturnal Symphony.
Firewind released their first album
Between Heaven and Hell in 2002 and have six full lenghts out so far. Their latest effort
Days Of Defiance was released in 2010.
So far I have just heard
Days Of Defiance and it's pretty good.
Burning Earth and
Forged By Fire is regarded as their best among their fans.
