| Is Flac really that much better then mp3? I fins that they just take a whole lot of space and can't seem to interact with Last.Fm | |

Flac is lossless which means you can encode a wav file to flac and back to wav again without losing any of the data of the original wav file. Mp3 is a compressed format which means that the encoding process removes non audible frequencies of the wav files. This is a non reversible process. Decoding a mp3 back to wav will in most cases add hiss and in extreme cases white noise in the "lost" frequencies. Re-encoding a mp3 will do even more damage. For some reason people believe that they can make a 128kbps file better by encoding it to 256kbps for example. They wrong. Re-encoding a mp3 file will add unwanted artifacts to the sound. If your flac don't interact with Last.Fm it's most likely your player and not the flac file itself. I use WinAmp and have never experienced any problems with any sound formats where you can add a tag in.... | |
