Quote :
The band is known for its dense combinations of different melodies and extended track lengths. Its distinctive sound draws from stoner rock, doom metal, post-rock, and other influences.

Pelican was originally formed as a side project to the "avant-grindcore" band Tusk, the members' main band at the time. In February 2005, Tusk entered the studio to begin recording 'The Resisting Dreamer', which ended up taking over 28 months to finally complete and release, during which Pelican recorded and released both "The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" and "City of Echoes".

Pelican's first release is more doom metal-oriented, but the band is mostly known for their later material, which is more post-rock and post-hardcore influenced (from "City of Echoes" onwards).

Another band in the "sludge/post-metal" genre that is so difficult to define. Well anyway, I see some similarities with ISIS, and bands alike. Don't hessitate to check 'em out! Wink

Self-titled EP is awesome, Australasia is pretty good, then the albums go downhill for me.

Yeah, it's the same with me, though I liked "What We All Come To Need" pretty much.
