Burzum

Highly over rated band due to all the shit surrounding the band.

Sometimes I am annoyed by all the Varg-jokes out there (even though I must admit i laugh at some) because he is an amazing musician who has done A LOT for nowadays black metal. Filosofem is still an unreached atmospheric/ambient black metal album and I believe that songs like "Tomhet" are able to change your whole life once you've heared and learned to appreciate these masterpieces.

Burzum is what got me into black metal in the first place, and black metal takes up a huge chunk of what I listen to now. You can't listen to "war" without being mindblown.

Plus that picture is fucking hilarious of varg and the churches....and the reverend bizarre cover is so fucking good!

The myth about Burzum is way larger than the talent. Now as I have listened through the Burzum discography up to Hliðskjálf (1999) I have to say that I found the music rather boring.

The other thing is that the music hardly contain any originality. Most of the riffs is ripped off other songs, most notably on Når Himmelen Klarner that sounds similar to Solitude by Candlemass for example. Adding a dull and dark production with some growls doesn't make it evil. Sometimes it get unintentionally funny as in Stemmen Fra Tårnet.

And for the ambient/medieval stuff he did on Daudi Baldrs and Hliðskjálf all I have to say is

highly overrated, some songs are pretty awesome but some are just CRAP

^^i second that, seriously, just coz of varg this band is famous. i mean their material isnt some WOA bullshit like some people treat it.

plus its mostly repeated riffs tbh

I listened to the self titled album this morning....... fucking horrible.

Maybe I'm just not a tr00 black metal kinda guy....

For those of you that like Burzum I'll throw the album on the blig soon...

When İ bought the filosofem album i was 19 - 20 years old and sweared badly because of the monotousness of the album.But year by year İ listened it as an ambient album and i liked the atmosphere but thats all.

I love Filosofem. The repeatitive(misspelled I guess) athmosphere is so great on that album. For example, the riff in Jesu' Tod, it feels like it goes on forever. I even like the album dividing(and opinions also) Rundgang.
Yeah, it's like the same binbong shit for like half hours but I never get bored with it. I'm not actually sure If this is my favourite-Burzum or Hvis Lyset.

filosofem is definatley my favorite. the new album is alright. the first track, not counting the intro, is amazing. but after that it drops off a bit. still a good album though

have yet to check out the new album...

Quite a "blast from the past" to be honest, I'm liking it so far.
