My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride is a doom band from Halifax, UK that was formed in 1990.
They are a powerful dark metal band, incorporating slight goth influences into their distinctive somber style. The style of the band has remained steady throughout their career, with a partial departure being some of the mid-period albums where a cleaner vocal style was prevalent.
The first full-length album was As the Flowers Withers in 1992, and have been followed by 11 albums, including two live albums.
Their latest one, For Lies I Sire, was released in March 2009.

So far I've listened to two albums by them, The Angel and the Dark River and Like Gods Of the Sun. Both quite good, with The angel as the better one of those two.

Anybody else into them?

Yes, I like the but only their first 4 albums after that no. Their latest is probably their worst.

Never could get into this band, ever. I've seen them called 'nu-doom', I dunno though. They're not for me.

Nonetheless, plenty of people do like them.

They've changed their style so damn much from their first album to their most recent.

A band that really has some good moments but sometimes it's too much goth for my taste. In my point of view, their best albums would be "the light at the end of the world" and "the dreadful hours".

The Angel & The Dark River is not bad.

That's why I dislike their later albums.

A Line of Deathless Kings fucking rules.

Their first one "Turn Loose The Swans" is a great Doom album, and a few others of their's is good, but I really don't listen to them all that much anymore, they used to get a lot of play from me though.

I dont listen to them much either I prefer Paradise Lost and Anathema.

Paradise Lost's second album is ace. I agree.

Hell yeah In Requim was excellent as well.

Imo it's a very good band... I like the old AND the new stuff.

What do you think about their latest album?

I like My Dying Bride a lot, they´re always good for few amazing riffs and atmosphere.
Their earlier albums are cult, but nevertheless I like their newest more. A Line of Deathless Kings, The Light at the End of the World, The Voice of the Wretched and The Dreadful Hours might not be the "trvest" doom metal ever, but it´s not about the labelling, more about the music...

I liked their newest album. The violin does a good job. Shame they aren't going to combine growls with a violin again, though.

It's a shame how this band has been so fucking inconsistent.

I was really into them for a while, because I love violins in general. They have some great moments. The last two albums are solid deliveries.

Yeah inconsistency turns me off to so many bands, it's sad really. This is one of those bands.

What do you mean by "inconsistent"? Which bands do you have in mind?

I dont know about you, but I like the bands who develop and change their style. Just look at Slayer for instance, it´s a band I actually like, but hell they didn´t change their music none a bit throughout the years... It´s boring.
For instance, I also hope Candlemass will implement in their next album some new ideas. So, My Dying Bride took violins now for the latest CD, which is not new to them. But maybe it is to some new listeners of the band and in this way, some kind of an invitation to listen also older stuff...

OK, so you ask yourself, why changing a winning formula?
It depends on band´s philosophy, some just can´t produce the same recycled shit all the time, though the selling numbers of these bands most probably prove me wrong. But I hope not everything is just about the number of sold copies in metal ...

I mean they have really good music and some music I don't really care for at all. I don't mind music changing, I enjoy that actually. As long as it's a change for the good. For this band, I didn't care for a lot of the changes they made. Then again, I just don't like anything by this band for the most part.

This band has some very good albums and some very bad albums. Their latest is a very bad album.

Ohh... Hell No... I think that My Dying Bride is one of the greatest Doom Metal bands...
Theit last album "For Lies I Sire" is (for me) the best Doom Metal album for the past 2-3 years....

Well from I Am the Bloody earth to The Lies i Sire is some great stuff.

Songs of darkness, word of light is usch an amazing album, i gives me shivers. Dark and depressing.

Where have you gone.. oh my love Beautiful. Catherine Blake and My Wine in silence are really increible.

The Angel and the dark river must be my second favourite. The intro in Your shameful heaven * drool*
