It´s kinda hard to guess what you already have and what not... Helrunar is blackened pagan metal I´d say, though I´m not that keen of labeling music into genres. Try "Frostnacht" first and then "Baldr ok Iss", these are the only 2 albums they have and one demo called Gratr that is hard to get. |

| OK, here goes. Folk/gothic metal is probably my favourite genre of metal. Throw in viking and pagan as well and te voila, there you go.
In my opinion, there is a lot of crossover between these genres anyway, so the admins' decision to merge the two is great and sensible.
I shall list some gothic/follk metal bands now, some aren't strictly metal, more neo-folk? but they have metallic influences or beginnings, and they take you away from the crap of modern life.
Wardruna - Gaahl from Gorgoroth is a contributor to this band. Dornenreich Hardingrock - Ihsahn and his wife pair up with a famous Scandinvian folk violinist. Alestorm - from Scotland, I saw them on their first ever live date, and they are pirate metal to the hilt. Ahoy there! Skyclad - the godfathers of folk metal, once upon a time led by Martyn Walkyier , he of Sabbat fame. Korpiklaani - nuff said, forest metal from Finland. All About Eve - a curveball here, this extinct 80s band were once cited as "folk metal" long before folk metal was invented.
Check them out and see what you think. |
