Bathory

Badass Band, i only own blood fire death, but it kicks ass, definitely need to get more of there albums.

GREAT band, one of my favourites. IMO Bloos Fire Death, Under The Sign of the Black Mark and The Return are best, but this band does not have weak albums (except the 2nd thrash release), so its hard to choose. If it wasn't them, the whole new black metal and viking/folk metal scene would not fully exist (not that I care too much).

Two years ago I heard "Under The Sign...". I didn't like it very much and never bothered to listen to other albums. A week ago, I got curious and downloaded "Blood Fire Death". Since then, BFD has become one of my favorite albums, and Bathory has become one of my favorite bands. I have 134 Bathory plays of this week only. I am trying to listen to every Bathory album which I should finish soon. The next album I have to listen to is "Octagon" *sigh* but "Requiem" was kind of a fun listen so maybe it won't be as bad as I think. As of now, Hammerheart is my second favorite, the s/t is probably my third.

The first 4-5 Bathory albums are pure gold.

Well you said that Medicore is Metalese for Bad, which is a true statement, but since Bathory have never made anything other than outstanding albums it doesn't apply to them.

Would you say the albums are all equally outstanding? And in what way is Octagon or Requiem outstanding? Nordland I & II?

For the sake of discussion, indulge me.

I may have over exaggerated with as far as Octagon is concerned, Octagon is a pretty good album, but not up to the standard we are used to (if anyone else wrote it I bet everyone would say "what a heap of shit Octagon is" but I think because it is Bathory they cut it some slack ). Nordland I & II row my boat in a big way, I love the Viking theme and I suppose the influential Value of anything Bathory has done adds a lot of kudos to his music.

That said, I do generally only listen up to Blood, FIre Death as I do prefer the Black Metal side of Bathory more than the Viking. At the end of the day, music is a subjective topic, everyone has their own opinions and tastes. You cant deny the influence of Quorthon and Bathory though and not even the legends of Metal can be perfect all the time .

Well I think that's the point I wanted to make. You should be allowed to say that Octagon is a heap of shit even if the same guy that made it also made Blood Fire Death. A good baker can bake a bad pie. You can throw the pie in the garbage and eat a different one. Haha.

I get your point and it is taken, I don't think Octagon is a heap of shit, I just think it is average compared to the quality of the rest of his albums.

I've only heard one song by Bathory, Call From The Grave, because it was in a Grand Theft Auto game on the death metal radio show. Fuckin' sick shit to kill people and be a biker to. The guitar and screams near the end are deafening.

My wife is listening more to Bathory than I do, but spinning some of their albums now and then. Spun Blood On Ice some time ago. Maybe my fave as well...

I've listened to self-titled, The Return and Blood On Ice. I like Blood On Ice the most, right now.

I got the self-titled on vinyl the other day and it's inspired me to go on a Bathory bender...
