| Symphony X is an American progressive/power metal band from New Jersey founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Romeo. Their 1997 album The Divine Wings of Tragedy and their 2000 release V: The New Mythology Suite have gained the band considerable attention within the progressive metal community. Musically Symphony X is similar to, although heavier than most other progressive metal bands to which they are commonly compared: Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Pain of Salvation. They play in a very syncopated, progressive fashion, also incorporating elements of symphonic metal into their sound. Their music contains strong neoclassical elements in line with the music of Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads and other influential neoclassical metal artists. To date, the band has recorded 7 studio albums and also released one live album Live on the Edge of Forever. Symphony X latest album was released June 2007, entitled Paradise Lost. http://www.symphonyx.com/http://www.myspace.com/officialsymphonyx | |

| I like Symphony X a lot. Much better than Dream Theater. Divine Wings Of Tragedy is my favorite album. | |

| I have a really hard time getting into this band. Mainly, because I find mostly all Prog metal to bore me. Its's really complex and I can respect the musicans I just personally cannot get into it, you know? I think everyones got that one genre they can't get into. Prog and Power are those genres I cannot hardly listen too. |

| Ya I totally understand.
Black metal used to be a genre I couldn't listen to at all... but lately I've been dipping my toes into some BM and am slowly warming up to it. | |

It's funny of you to say that, because Heat and I were just talking about not being able to get in BM for the longest time and finally getting into it and loving it. |

| One thing that helps is getting recommendations of top notch bands in a genre to listen. That's why the forums are awesome. Especially when you have some cool, helpful and knowledgable people on it. | |

| Michael Romeo is a force to be reckoned with. I'm not so keen on Symph. X, but I know Michael Romeo is one of the best guitarists as I wrote this. A real true guitar virtuoso, he is just amazing. |

| I haven't listened to Symphony X in quite a while. Damnation Game is such a good album. I usually not a Prog dude but this band annihilates Dream Theater. | |

| Great band, not sure if I'd rank them as the best I have heard but pretty damn close. The Odyssey is probably my favourite by them, kicks all kinds of ass. | |

| Taken from Symphony X's Facebook page: - Quote :
- SYMPHONY X are currently recording their Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2007’s Paradise Lost, which has sold over 60,000 copies in North America. Allen has finished recording his vocal tracks and the band is moving on to record keyboards, bass, and guitar solos. Guitarist Michael Romeo offers the following update: "We love the fans, and we know we haven't been as on top of things with the updates this year as we should have, but when it's down to the wire and we're going 24/7 trying to wrap things up, then that's what we're focused on. We really think the fans will like this album; it has been, by far, more work (and harder work) than any other album, period."
The SYMPHONY X camp adds: “We're pleased to announce that both drummer Jason Rullo and lead vocalist Russell Allen recently became fathers for the second time. Jason is now the proud father of a beautiful baby girl and Russell and his wife now have a beautiful baby boy. Congratulations to them both!”
In other band news, the SYMPHONY X Fan Club has been shut down and is currently being revamped. “We anticipate that it will be ready for new members around the same time as the new CD is released, if not a bit sooner. Existing/previous members should have either already received info on the change to a permanent membership setup and an invite to the new fan club mailing list or will be receiving it soon. If you are an existing/previous SYMPHONY X Fan Club member and have not received this notification, please contact Jax (jax@symphonyx.com) for more information.”
Fans are encouraged to submit questions for the band’s soon-to-be-updated FAQ section of their website. Send questions in to symxfaq@gmail.com with “FAQ” in the subject line.
Formed in 1994 in New Jersey, SYMPHONY X has seven studio albums and one live album to their credit.
