Runemagick

Runemagick are Doom/Death metal band from Sweden, formed in 90'. Earlier they were purely Death metal, not they're death/doom though. One of my favorite death/doom bands, because normally I'm not hugely into death/doom. Here is the exception.

'Invocation of Magick' is a solid album, I enjoy it.

Anyone listen?

Oops, actually I have "Moon of the Chaos Eclipse". It is a great lbum as well, and it is now up on the blog.

I just put Dawn Of The End up on the blog. It's a pretty good album.

They fucking rule although I sort of object to them being called doom. Envenom was their only real doom influenced album the rest is just pure swedish death metal worship in the vein of Carnage.

Dawn Of The End is very Death/Doom as well.

See I don't think it is. It's the same debate that Asphyx get when they get called death/doom. Asphyx can be quite doomy at times but their sound is very much in the vein of Autopsy and Obituary who were much slower playing death metal bands.

I hold the same true for Runemagick in that their sound is very much derived from the early swedish death metal scene of bands like Carnage and Grave although they just slowed it down a lot, now for me Doom is more than just slowing your music down and pretty much all Runemagick's riffs are embedded in the death metal psyche.

I'm sure people will disagree with me but that's how I see it. Still a sick band no matter what you call it.

You obviously know more about Swedish death metal than I do, but I always considered Runemagick to be a death/doom band.

I only have their latest excursion.

Runemagick. My favorite doom band ever. One of the most consistent doom bands of all times. Just give 'Enter The Realm Of Death' one listen and you'll be scurrying to look up the meaning of heavy in the dictionary.

Yeah man you were spot on with that, nice! I totally dig these guys, Darkness Death Doom was a fantastic album by the way.

Their first album is quite pur old school death metal without any doom in it imo.

Just came back to these guys. On Funeral Wings specifically.

Were these guys incapable of making a bad album? I've never seen a band churn out more records than these guys and have the level of quality not dip at all. Fucking awesome band, really hope they reform at some point.

Aww, I completely missed them breaking up. So that's why they went from immensely productive to 0 output all of a sudden!

My favourite is Invocation of Magick, but On Funeral Wings and Dawn of the End are also fantastic albums. Chrushingly massive DOOM riffage!
