Dark Quarterer is a band from Piombino, Italy. They formed back in 1974 and their self-titled debut was released in 1987. They have released five full lenghts so far with the latest one, Symbols, released in 2008.

They call themselves godfathers of Epic Progressive Metal, but they blend in some doom and classic heavy metal as well in their music. I've only heard their first one and it's pretty amazing, and must have been quite unique sounding back in 1987 when it was released.

Note: The first album have never been officially released on CD, and the version that is available at several stores is a half decent/half crappy bootleg release.

I've been meaning to check this band out for the longest time, they sound like my sort of thing.
