Jesu is an experimental rock band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of Godflesh. Jesu was the name of the last song on the final Godflesh release, Hymns, and Broadrick decided to adopt it as the name of this project.
Jesu's sound is heavily layered and textured, drawing from and incorporating an eclectic mix of influences, ranging from ambient music, post-metal and drone doom, to shoegazing, downtempo and industrial music. Broadrick himself has made it known that he does not consider Jesu to fall into any of these categories and that he has been intentionally writing what he considers to be coherent and structured pop songs.

So...any fans? I've just been getting into 'em and I found the music fantastic if one is in the mood for it.

In my opinion Jesu is great. They're not stuck in a mold and they progress soundwise on every one of their releases (to the disappointment of many hardcore Godflesh fans). I especially like the chilled out and dreamlike feeling on their albums, there's something pretty enchanting about it.

Yeah I really like their beginning stuff. Self Titled and Conqueror, they're fair in between Godflesh and the latter "popier" jesu stuff.

One thing I've come to wonder lately, how come Justin pretty much nails it on the spot with his EP's? Each EP he has put out has been good, if not exceptional, and displays Jesu's progression in sound much better than the full lengths. And I don't mind the "poppier" side at all, the vocal progression, the mellowing out on the music, in my opinion it all seems to fit perfectly.

Yeah, it's just I dig those mellow vocals and keyboard synths placed over the crushing guitars on the self-titled. That combo kills.

A three-part interview with Justin. A very down to earth guy, I like the way he is so honest about his music

I've got Conqueror and the Silver EP, neither of which did anything for me.

Conqueror is a bit "hit and miss" at times, I'll give you that. Silver on the other hand is pure love for me, the shameless pop music-drive warms and soothes my heart
