| Destroy this thread if there's already one for DF, but I couldn't spy one when I searched. So I guess you all hate the 'Force, then? I love them - saw them live along with Turisas. It was awesome. Now, tear me to shreds | |

| I'll let you off easy cause you're new. No comment at this time on DF. But, if you make a Trivium thread as well then all bets are off..... | |

| Here's my problem with DF....#1 There are hundreds of Power Metal bands out there that blow DF to shreds. #2 DF are one of the worst live bands I have ever heard. Yes, their production is spotless on their albums but that is all computer enhanced. They are just too fake for my tastes.
People disliking them so much is basically their own fault. They put out these albums with perfection and lightning speeds and then when they go on stage they are a complete joke. Kinda like lip synching.
So basically that is why I have 0 respect & 0 plays of Dragonforce.

| You have a point, and I'm not a fan boy of DF. Firstly, please show me these power metal bands who blow them to shreds - not to disprove you, I just don't know that many power metal bands and I'd love to get into more.
On the live note - have you seen them live? If you have and it wasn't on the UB tour, then I can fully accept that you didn't like them live, but if you haven't, and all you've seen are the YouTube videos (the one where Sam falls over, Graspop, or mobile phone videos from people at the concerts), then you've probably got the wrong idea. On the Inhuman Rampage Tour (that is, 06-07), they were unpracticed which led to the awful Graspop recordings. Now they play with in-ear monitors and they are far better. I saw them near the start of the Ultra Beatdown tour (late 08) and I was blown away - so much energy.
However, if you were at a festival or something where they played and they sucked, fair enough. Also, they're releasing a live album this year so you'll get to hear what they sound like - they say there'll be no overdubs too. I'll post you a link for a song from that so you can have another listen.
On the subject of their studio albums, you definitely have a point, and they're not the best guitarists/keytarists out there, no way. The most skilled one is their keyboard player. There are a lot of effects going on there, but it's not like they play the solos and then speed them up to put them on the album. Perhaps I notice the fake-ish sound less than you, but I don't mind it that much. They can play it, which is the main thing that matters. Their earlier stuff (Valley of the Damned) has some fantastic stuff on it and sounds very different - more raw, you could say - so maybe that would appeal more to you.
Sorry if this comes across harshly, not trying to start a fight here.

| No, I have never actually attended a live Dragonforce show. That's not to say I haven't heard many live recordings by them or have had in depth conversations with friends that have seen them live. By no means am I saying they suck. They don't suck. They do have some very good musicians in the band. My main problem with DF is the way they present their studio recordings and the way they present their live shows. And also the large amounts of, I don't want to say effects because all bands use effects but maybe a better word would be enhancements that they do use in their studio recordings. The end product seems to come out like some very cheesey stuff recorded and their live shows they seem unprepared and unable to play their own songs which in essence is actually true because without the added cheese they can't. I really believe if they sat down and forgot about playing at ludicrous speed and cut it down a notch and concentrated on their instruments and songwriting that they could probably make a half decent Power Metal album. As far as Power Metal bands that blow them to shreds....I don't have time to make a list but pretty much every Power Metal band listed in the Power Metal section blows them to shreds. As far as coming off harsh....No worries dude, I LOVE a good debate.... | |

| By the way, Through The Fire isn't even close to being one of their better songs, for me, compared to something like Reasons To Live, or Last Journey Home.
Besides, you could do that with any song and get the same result (ever heard of midi?), DF just cause extra lol because they're ultra cheesy already.

| thing is my point was that, that is the reason i cant listen to them... because they do sound like that... im not gonna argue that all of their songs sound completely like midi... cheesy is hard for me to bare(main reason i barely listen to power metal) but this is just too much for me... when i hear insane guitars i need it to sound uber... not cheesy thats why tech death metal will always be better in my book no matter what | |
