Well, I've seen this used on other forums and it can help to cut back on useless questions from time to time. Just post general things about the genre rather than making new threads about everything, you know?
Such as your top ten songs or top 5 bands or favorite vocalist, whatever. Post it here. Then of course the bands have thier on threads.
So, to start us my favorites are
Sleep Eyehategod Hail!Hornet Orange Goblin Pillcrusher Boris Sun O))) Electric Wizard Black Sabbath 16 Buzzov*en Beaten Back to Pure Earth Cathedral Dystopia Bongzilla Warhorse Unorthodox Solitude Aeturnus Place of Skulls Saint Vitus Rhino High On Fire Grief YOB Noothgrush Goatsnake Weedeater Bongripper Crowbar The Obsessed Trouble Caldera Grand Magus Iron Monkey Down Dawn of Winter Pentagram Melvins Kyuss Solace Katatonia
many more.
This is just a random list of bands I could think of I liked, actually.

I don't like the name "Doom", it's just good heavy metal. [/controversy]

I agree and disagree with this. But it's got things a lot of 'Heavy Metal' doesn't have. I don't know though, thats a hard debate.

At the most basic and frank level, it's just slower half the time tbh. For the most part, time signitures and tempo's shouldn't define a genre...

Anyone dig Lamented Souls? I know your all a bunch of feck'n Doomheads, but I have yet to see anybody mention them. That's the band Semen/ICS-whatever the fuck really shines in, I used to listen to "Origin's of Misery" at least twice everyday without exaggeration.

Saw Pentagram last weekend in Baltimore; absolutely killer. Probably one of the best shows I think I'll ever have the chance of seeing

Dopesmoker You are missing Acid Bath. And High On Fire is hardly a doom metal band, since they have only one doom release ("The Art of Self Defense"), other then that they are more of a speed/thrash mix. Fu Manchu are not metal at all, same with Witchcraft. Good to see Warhorse (if it's from Worcester), not many people know them.
tunedtothedevil Yeah, I can wait to hear their new release, even though they said that it's gonna be far more influenced by modern stuff.
P.S: Added link to Warhorse in DL section.

Don't know how I managed to overlook Acid Bath, I love them.
I dunno about High on Fire, always seen doom in pretty much all the music.
Fu Manchu have always been stoner, but more rock I guess than metal.

I've listened to all of their albums many many times, and I don't recall even 1 song I would say is Thrash. Let alone a whole album.
