Moonspell was the first Portuquese metal band to break worldwide, bursting on the scene with the stunning Wolfheart album, mixing doomdeath, goth-styled keyboards, and various old metal influences in 1995.

Already on their second release (Irreligious), the goth influences were brought to the fore, disappointing some hardcore fans but winning others.

They then released two albums (Sin/Pecado & The Butterfly Effect) that is viewed by most fans as disapointments.

On later albums they have tried to recapture what they did on their earlier albums, as both Darkness And Hope and 2003's The Antidote are fine albums, as good as any the band have ever done.

Reqs: Wolfheart & Sin/Pecado

I cannot believe that more people haven't written about the awesome Moonspell!!

I saw them as a support to Type O Negative at the end of 95, I think, and I didn't know who they were. I was blown away by their mix of gothic and metal, and I loved the whole aesthetics of the band.

I have all their albums and love them in equal measure.

An interesting fact, the whole of Moonspell made an album under the name of Daemonarch in the late 1990s - very dark and very good.

I just listened to Night Eternal that came out in 2008. IMO it's their best since Sin /Pecado. It's heavier and darker than their most recent ones.
