Ahab

Ahab are a German funeral doom metal. The sea and moby dick are their lyrical themes. Could easily be called "Whale metal" because of the amazing atmosphere!

This is really great! Highly recommended!

I have their latest album and it is fantastic.

When I heard it for the first time I was not really interested in funeral doom. But this was catchy and I listened to it very often afterwards xD

Cool for anyone into into Funeral Metal.

Their whole ocean/whale theme is great. It's really what made me notice them, and have listened to "Call of the Wretched Sea" many many times.

They really do capture the feel of the wide open see, and whaling.

I love 'em but I haven't listened to them in ages, I lost my copy of Call Of The Wretched Sea somewhere along the line.

Haha. I believe they call themselves Nautical FUneral Doom. At least when I looked last. Is their new album out yet? I only know of The Call of the Wretched Sea. Anyways, they're a good band to get into FUneral Doom, since they're more accessible to beginners I think.

I found Call of the Wretched Seas to be great musical accompaniment to Resident Evil 0, a game that gets pretty boring if it's the only thing you're doing.

As for the style though... there's nothing inherently oceanic or watery about their sound; if they didn't explicitly indicate themselves that way no one would get that out of it. Even having BEEN explicitly indicated I don't hear it, just sounds like really straight-forward non-gothy funeral doom metal to me.

I was kinda bored with this too... the guitars loop annoying/forced delay saturated leads (see the Pacific) and it makes the music awkward and repetitious. Reminds me of Mournful Congregation with a decent drummer and a hipster guitar player. Oh well not all bands are for everyone.

Didn't mean to give the impression I didn't dig it. I've listened to it a shitload since I found it, though I did delete the 4th and 5th tracks (because they felt redundant), but yeah, I see the comparison - definitely props to the drummer though. The Thunderer is easily the most accessible song on the album, shortest, fastest, and catchiest; maybe try listening to that one another couple times if you wanna make an effort.

Usually I go into a band not feeling it, get stoned put it on and love it. Its all part of the hypocritical life style I'm trying to live.

you don't really listen to much funeral doom raw? Ahab is like the ultra entry level accessible FD band. I have more problems with other FD stuff over them. I'm not a funeral doom fan myself though so eh...

I mainly listen to the essentials ( Mournful Congregation, Funeralium, Worship, Evoken, Thergothon, etc...). I really don't want this to seem like a troll post and discuss my opinion though. I just dont find Ahab as.... raw as I like most my music. Heh.
