| So far for me it would have to be Absu. Though Gorod's Process of a New Decline is a fantastic modern tech death album.
Candlemass' Death Magic Doom deserves a mention too.

| Every single time I listen to Absu's Absu I think "this is definitely my album of the year so far" - usually while nodding my head and humming along. I just can't stress enough how much I enjoy it. It's like, Emperor meets Slayer, with a touch of Melechesh. The album features the best production the band have ever had, where some fans saw it as a negative, I see it as a definite plus, and a step in the right direction. I'd compare the progression from the band's previous album Tara similar to the progression Emperor made from Anthems to IX Equilbrium. The overall atmosphere of the album is great, even if the variation of riffs isn't huge, they're all very enjoyable and add to the more thrashier moments of the album. The clarity of Procsriptor's drumming is very refreshing as well, especially as on previous releases it wasn't so prominent, which I found disappointing.
Basically, it's going to take one hell of an album to top Absu for me this year.

| It's been an ok year, Armaggedon, Heaven and Hell, Beherit, and ISB all released great albums. The newcomer was Excoriate with their DM opus, and the best re-issue was the re-recorded version of "Strange Ways To Ancient Times"! Actually, it's been a pretty kick ass year, considering there were only two or three truly excellent releases in 2008. |

| Recently...
Ensiferum - From Afar is by far the best album I heard from 2009 Wolf - Ravenous Awesome heavy metal, this band had some decent releases, some great, but this is by far their best Witheria - Painful Escape Nice, different deathrash..good shit that never bores me Thanatos - Justified Genocide A new album by the dutch(?) deathrash masters..great release! ultimate headbanger Suffocation - Blood Oath is nice.. Bastardator - Identify The Dead is a nice piece of thrash to hear sometimes.. and finally in last.. Warbringer - Waking Into Nightmare I'm not a big fan of Warbringer, and this release is better than their first but still doesn't really give me a feeling that the album is THE album.
I need to hear the new Immortal...
