Views on abortion?

I have noticed the ongoing controversy in the US about this issue. We had some discussions here in Norway back in 1978 when the abortion law was stated. There were a few radical left-wing priests who didn't welcome the law and tried to raise some controversy about it back then.

I pretty much agree on how the abortion question is handled in Norway. Up to 12 weeks into the pregnancy the woman can decide to take an abortion, without any reasons given. From 12-18 weeks into the pregnancy certain criterias have to be present to have a abortion. Those are:
# save the life of the pregnant woman
# preserve the woman's physical or mental health
# terminate pregnancy that would result in a child born with a congenital disorder that would be fatal or associated with significant morbidity
# the pregnacy is a result of incest or rape
# the pregnant woman is physically or mentally retarded

After 18 weeks abortion is not allowed, unless the pregnant woman is in danger to die.
After 23 weeks abortion is not allowed at all, as it is considered that the fetus will survive the birth and the doctors will force a premature birth if necessary.

Right now I can't remember any cases covered in the news here in Norway where pregnant women have been forced to carry through their pregancy without their will, so I guess the law considering this issue is working quite well here.

i think abortion should might as well be treated as murder, seeing to the fact that you are actually taking someones life. A fetus is living, and that is an undeniable fact. yes they dont act or respond, but regardless, they are humans, and abortion is taking their life which i think is fucking gay. what difference does it make if you kill a living walking 30 year old, or something that hasnt been born yet but is still living?

but not all countries follow those rules, and we have to take into account that most countries with abortion rates are the places where abortion laws arent really applied. plus, anyone can travel to another country to get an abortion nowadays, so yeah...major fucked up-ism

yeah the rules you guys got vogg are great... and should be the laws here... i hate religious nuts who try to abolish abortions... its your opinion... keep it to yourself... if a 17 year old makes the mistake of getting herself knocked up... should she A. get an abortion, or B. keep the baby and ruin the rest of her life and the childs life with being an early mother who is not ready for the burden.

yes there are some instances of ppl who would abuse this... but its quite rare

...and to get the fact straight, me and my wife would never go for an abortion for "no reasons". I forgot to say that in my post, but what other people choose do to is their own decision.

DEATH TO FETUSES

When a fetus is aborted it has not developed enough yet to feel pain. It is not even developed enough to have a consciousness.

The way I look at it, the world's fucking overpopulated as it is. If some dumb teenager getting preggo and has a child and treats it like shit its whole life can be avoided... well fucking power to them.

Dude, it is proven fact that at a little under 3 weeks fetuses respond to pain. Don't just post dumb comments when you can't back up what you're saying...Nah?? Why cause you say so?? I'll take scientists word for it over yours.. I just recently watched a documentary on Discovery about this subject hence the topic. I am trying to find the show so I can post the clip about fetuses and pain.

I would rather read an actual study than watch some show on TV though. If there is proof as you say I will gladly retract my comment... but I have never seen any.

meh pain doesnt mean anything... until there is an actual consciousness in the body it doesnt matter... reaction to pain is just a reflex built into the human body... so that means nothing

I was a documentary with scientific studies you idiot. Ummm..Yeah, that's an actual study. I haven't been able to find any video clips of it but if it is on again I will Tivo it. I'm sure it will be. Discovery replays everything.

Heat, the most important thing I learned in university is that these types of things have to be backed up by scientific studies that are published in reputable journals. Anyone can make a documentary and interview any fucking quack to make their point. That doesn't make the information valid nor free from bias on the part of the film makers or the "experts" that they receive their information from.
