Windir are viking I suppse, I've just always lumped them into BM. Mayhem are cool with me, always has been. Immortal have always been BM to me aswell, then again I'm sorda BM stupid. Actually haven't been into BM very long. |

Mayhem were the first to play Black Metal, but they were also the first to deviat from it with bullshit progressive elements and faggotry. |

The first to play the modern style of black metal maybe but by no means the first band to play bm; There seems to be some dissention regarding weather or not the proto-black metal bands actually played black metal or not from my experience but for all purposes, Bathory seem to be the first to play black metal with "the Return......" in terms of it's modern sound. I understand where your coming from with Mayhem but feel completely different about them personally. |

| Well, I obviously meant they were the first of the second wave, and quite possibly the ones who gave the second wave life in the first place. I have a hard time actually calling bands from the "first wave" BM in the first place. When I decide if a band is Black metal or not, I automatically look for traits most of the (good/true) bands from the second wave embodied as far as style/sound, and sometimes image goes while they were around. You can't really take a band nowadays and call them "Black Metal" if they just play Venom's style, and separating genres by time periods (to me at least) is a bit redundant when it's (supposed to be) the music that counts.
Since it IS St.Pat's day, I AM rather tipsy and I'm about to go to bed, so excuse me if I sound like I'm talking shit. (Thank god for spell check btw) |

Indeed; this is the most simple of concepts but it seems to be one of the most overlooked. |

| Let me get this out of the way; I fucking love Mayhem. For the most part, I do seem to be alone on this sentiment. |

| I love Mayhem as well, but their only material which I like is DMDS. Attila´s vocals on DMDS are the best BM vocal performance of all time, in my opinion. A lot of people dislike them, because it sounds different. Well everytime someone sways from the row people don´t like him. His vocals are emotional and much more real and dark than most of the uninspired BM singers. Yeah and to name some of my all-time BM favourites: Bathory - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Blasphemy - Fallen Angel Of Doom Profanatica - all Beherit - The Oath Of Black Blood Von - Satanic Blood Demoncy - Faustian Dawn Master´s Hammer - Ritual Tormentor - Anno Domini Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky Forgotten Woods - Sjel Av Natten Ancient - Trolltaar Satyricon - The Shadowthrone Isvind - Nivelheimen Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism Ulver - Bergtatt Mysticum - In The Streams Of Inferno
...and much more |

| Black metal is really not a genre I heavily got into. I've listened to bands such as Marduk, Immortal, Mayhem, Emperor, etc. In my opinion, Rotting Christ's Genesis is the best black metal of all-time. It's pretty much my favorite BM record. RC was non-black metal for some sort of period of time and Genesis was their comeback album in a way. It was black metal mixed in with the style they were playing during that period of time. I highly recommend Genesis to people wanting to get into Rotting Christ or even black metal itself. |

I've never got heavily into like I am into other genres, but I listen too it nonetheless. Moslty gotten into it recently though, so I'm still pretty newbie to it.

| Yeah, Rotting Christ are pretty much one of the best bands to get into. Uhhh I haven't listened to 'em in a while. Emperor's another awesome band to get into. I would get their 2 disc compilation Scattered Ashes: A Decade Of Emperial Wrath. That is a really excellent compilation, it covers everything Emperor has done. |

| I never really got all that far into Black Metal, about the only bands I'll really listen to are Acheron (their album "Anti-God, Anti-Christ" was one of the first Metal albums I really listened to), Forgotten Tomb, Silencer, The Shining, Lifelover, and Nachtmystium. |

| Vinterland's "Welcome Your Last Chapter" is a fine piece of Melodic Black Metal, check them out if you haven't already. |
